Renewvia installed a rooftop array to offset the high power expenses of SteelFab's fabrication plant in Emporia, Virginia. By helping the SteelFab take advantage of favorable net metering policies, the company is able to push the excess power produced when the factory is closed on weekends and holidays back to the local utility
SteelFab, which has more than 1,000 employees in 14 locations across the Southeast and Texas, began partnering with Renewvia in 2016 to deploy an innovative strategy to reduce energy costs at rural factories and offset its overall carbon footprint. In addition to upgrading Steelfab's Virginia facility, Renewvia has installed similar solar arrays in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina. Altogether, the four rooftop systems are generating 1.67 MW of solar power, cutting their combined power costs by nearly 50 percent and offsetting over 1,500 metric tons of carbon annually.
