RENEWVIA ENERGY BUILDS ONE OF THE LARGEST ROOFTOP SOLAR ARRAYS IN ALABAMA FOR STEELFAB, INC.

December 4, 2018

ATLANTA, Ga. – Today, Renewvia Energy announced that it has successfully completed one of the largest commercial distributed rooftop solar array in the state of Alabama. Renewvia’s rooftop system includes 2,296 solar photovoltaic panels providing 746 kilowatt (kW) of power to SteelFab’s Roanoke steel fabrication plant, a major economic driver for the eastern Alabama town that is home to around 6,000 people.

“We’ve been operating in Roanoke, Alabama, for more than two decades,” said Stuart Sherrill, SteelFab Inc. regional president and president of SteelFab Alabama. “Our investment in solar is an investment in our company and the communities where we work. By lowering our electricity costs, we’re able to produce high-quality products more efficiently and decrease waste.”

SteelFab, which has more than 1,000 employees in 14 locations across the Southeast and Texas, began partnering with Renewvia in 2016 to deploy an innovative strategy to reduce energy costs at rural factories and offset its overall carbon footprint. The Alabama facility is the fourth steel fabrication plant to be upgraded by Renewvia, which installed similar solar arrays at SteelFab facilities in Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia. The four rooftop systems are altogether generating 1.67 megawatt (MW) of solar power, cutting their combined power costs by nearly 50 percent and offsetting over 1,500 metric tons of carbon annually.

“Manufacturers are faced with large fixed power costs that will only increase over time,” said Renewvia co-Founder and President Trey Jarrard. “We’re proud to help SteelFab own as much power as possible and reduce operation costs at their plants.”

SteelFab’s Roanoke plant, which generates six times more energy than the new array at NASA’s historic Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, is Renewvia’s first commercial solar project in Alabama. It also marks the second time the company has made headlines for the size of its rooftop projects. Last year, Renewvia built the largest rooftop solar array in New Hampshire for Worthen Industries, a 150 year-old American manufacturer. Located in Nashua, the project included 2,710 solar panels over 90,000 square-feet of roof, which upon completion cut the facility’s power needs in half.
