Renewvia’s New Solar Energy System Powers Up the Grand Opening of Audi South Atlanta
Slicing Butler Automotive Group’s Annual Greenhouse Emissions by Nearly 50 Metric Tons
ATLANTA, Ga. – Renewvia Energy’s innovative rooftop solar system is officially online and powering up Butler Automotive Group’s brand new Audi South Atlanta. At the grand opening celebration later today, top executives from Audi of America, Butler Automotive Group and Renewvia will celebrate the company’s new high-tech 42,500 square-foot facility, which has created over 50 new jobs in Union City, located ten miles south of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Instead of a dormant roof space, Butler Automotive Group can now rely upon solar photovoltaic panels to produce 30 percent of the power required to fully operate the dealership. Renewvia’s system will significantly reduce Audi South Atlanta’s energy costs and cut the amount of greenhouse gas that the dealership emits by 49.8 metric tons annually, which is equivalent to planting 58.6 acres of forest every year.
“We see solar power as a definitive investment in our future as a company,” said Marsh Butler, Co-President of Butler Automotive Group. “It allows direct energy ownership, and more importantly, it’s the right thing to do for the environment.”
This is the third time that Renewvia has designed and developed a rooftop solar array for Butler Automotive Group, a family-owned company based in Macon, Ga. that employs nearly 700 people at 14 new and used car dealerships across Georgia and South Carolina. Over the course of 2015-2016, Renewvia added 100 kilowatt (kW) of solar power to its new Macon, Ga. collision center and another 100kW rooftop solar array, plus more than 150 high-lumen LED exterior light fixtures, at its nearby Nissan dealership. In addition to lowering the company’s carbon footprint, this investment has successfully reduced power costs at these two facilities by over 50 percent.
